Some of these match ups are no contest, others are going to see some classic acts go out of the tourney.

The Hacienda Bracket
#1 Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song
vs.
#5 Prince – I Would Die 4 U
The little purple one put up a good fight, but even in six inch platforms, he couldn't stand up to the towering guitar of Jimmy Page and Plant's massive vocals.
Winner: Immigrant Song

#2 The Beatles – A Day In The Life
vs.
#3 Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run
Ouch! This is a very difficult match up. MacLennon vs. The Boss. Like Syracuse and UCONN, this game went into multiple overtimes. A Day in the Life is an amazing song, but The Boss has been on a tear lately. Springsteen sinks a half court shot at the buzzer to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the tourney so far.
Winner: Born to Run

CBGBs Bracket
#1 The Clash – London Calling
vs.
#4 The Pixies – Debaser
Black Francis, you may have had your way early in the tourney, but did you really think you could take on The Clash and win? They may have been tired out from that last round against Paul Weller and The Jam, but Frank, you've been Debased. (Maybe we should just cut to the chase and admit that London Calling is going to win the whole thing. They are the UCONN Lady Huskies of this tourney -- unbeatable.)
Winner: London Calling

#2 The Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop
vs.
#6 Pink Floyd – Fearless
David Gilmour put on the full-court press to try to take on Joey, Dee Dee and the rest of the boys, but since Roger Waters faked a cramp and asked to be benched, The Ramones manhandled the rest of the Floyd Crew.
Winner: Blitzkrieg Bop

The 100 Club Bracket
#1 The Rolling Stones – She’s A Rainbow
vs.
#4 Black Sabbath – War Pigs
Mick and Keith are getting a little long in the tooth and are running out of Monster, so they have some weaknesses. One blaring chord from Sabbath and their brittle bones shatter. They never even make it out of the locker room.
Winner: War Pigs

#2 Bob Dylan – Like A Rolling Stone
vs.
#3 The Animals – We Gotta Get Out Of This Place
Eric Burdon, you are the Morgan State of the tourney, and unfortunately you have now come up against UNC. And you're going down. Hard.
Winner: Like A Rolling Stone

Whiskey-a-Go-Go Bracket
#1 The Who – My Generation
vs.
#5 Talking Heads – This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)
David Byrne got tangled up in his big suit and missed the jump ball. Townshend and Daltry dominate throughout the game. Bye Bye, Byrnie.
Winner: My Genneration

#2 David Bowie – Space Oddity
vs.
#6 Elvis – Suspicious Minds
Elvis may have had a '68 comeback special, but David Bowie came back from outer space to win this one.
Winner: Space Oddity.

The Elite Eight is going to bring on some big tears; I can feel it.

100 Club Bracket

#1 Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song over #5 Prince – I Would Die 4 U. Robert and Jimmy give No Quarter to the Kid. Years from now, Apolonia's son will have long curly hair and rock out on a Les Paul, while a badly decomposed body, wrapped in lace, is found on a Misty Mountain top (yes, I know it is hop - shut up). Winner: Led Zeppelin.

#2 The Beatles – A Day In The Life over #3 Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run. While Lennon and McCartney go after the Boss' head with Maxwell's Silver Hammer, George and Ringo are Fixin' a Hole somewhere in the south endzone of Giants Stadium. The Boss is never heard from again. Winner: The Beatles.

CBGBs Bracket

#1 The Clash – London Calling over #4 The Pixies – Debaser. I had chest pains as I wrote this. I don't think it was from the Filet-o-Fish, but who knows. Goodbye Black Francis. Winner: The Clash.

#6 Pink Floyd – Fearless over #2 The Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop. Another tough matchup in NYC. I had to go with Floyd on this one after going to the tape... er, iPod. Something about that song just mellows me out. Winner: Pink Floyd.

The 100 Club Bracket

#4 Black Sabbath – War Pigs over #1 The Rolling Stones – She’s A Rainbow. I have said it once and I will say it again; DUH DUH..... DUH DUH DUHHHHHHH DUHHHHHHH. DUH DUH. BA-BLICKEM, BA-BLICKEM, BA-BLICKEM. DUH DUH..... DUH DUH DUHHHHHHH DUHHHHHHH. Winner: Black Sabbath.

#2 Bob Dylan – Like A Rolling Stone over #3 The Animals – We Gotta Get Out Of This Place. Weakest matchup of the tourney. This one should be renamed "match to determine whose head Ozzy bites off in the next round". Winner: Bob Dylan.

Whiskey-a-Go-Go Bracket

#1 The Who – My Generation over #5 Talking Heads – This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody). Two words: Keith Fuckin' Moon. Winner: The Who.

#2 David Bowie – Space Oddity over #6 Elvis – Suspicious Minds. Elvis can eat a bag of dicks. Winner: Bowie.

My god. Surgically removing nostalgia and sentiment, focusing on artistry and the song in and of itself, Plant, Page and company keep their pimp hands strong and bitch-slap the crap out of the Kid, onstage, at First Avenue. I'm going to hell:
#1 Led Zeppelin-Immigrant Song
#2 The Beatles-A Day in the Life

CBGBs
#1 The Clash-London Calling
(I am Like a Stoned Mark Ruffalo in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind when it comes to the Clash)

"1,2,3,4!!!:"
#2 The Ramones-Blitzkreig Bop

100 Club

#4 Black Sabbath-War Pigs
#2 Bob Dylan--Like a Rolling Stone

Whiskey-a-go-go

#1 The Who-My Generation
(#5 conjures up more Gordon Gecko than Demme)
#2 Bowie-Space Oddity (without any hesitation)

And the favorites roll on, with one notable exception
Hacienda
#1 Led Zeppelin - There are better Prince songs than Immigrant Song (better Zep songs too), but not I will Die 4 U

#2 Beatles, A Day in the Life - This one was really tough for me, I detest Springsteen but love Born to Run.

CBGBs
#1 The Clash - still too easy
#2 The Ramones - see The Clash

The 100 Club - a battle of rolling stones
#1 The Rolling Stones
#2 Dylan, Like a Rolling Stone

Whiskey-a-Go-Go
#1 The Who, even though that generation is now draining social security

#6 Elvis -- Just really doesn't get his due from the younger crowd who mostly "remembers" fat Elvis. The man's influence throughout generations of music simply cannot be denied. With another song, this would've gone to Bowie, but Suspicious Minds is a masterpiece (if not written by the big E). Notable covers: Waylon Jennings, Fine Young Cannibals, The Flaming Lips, Dwight Yoakum, Yonder Mountain String Band and too many others to list.

Ok....so I f'ed up royally, my apologies.

for the 100 Club, I was recorded as voting for the Rolling Stone, however, I would move for the record to reflect my intentions - to vote for Black Sabbath and War Pigs. Don't know how I missed it.

Damn butterfly ballot
