#1 The Clash – London Calling over #16 B-52’s – Rock Lobster. Since the crustacean from Georgia came in to this tournament via the play in game, you just knew it was going to get it's ass kicked in the opening round. What you didn't know was that that the poor critter would be boiled with the Power of Rock before Joe Strummer even got to the lyrics. Too bad. Now pass the butter. Winner: The Clash

#2 The Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop over #15 Ned’s Atomic Dustbin – Happy. As much as it pains me to see Ned's out of the tournament, the dirty boys form the UK couldn't handle the math. Here's the equation: 3 minutes + 3 chords + 0 solo = AWESOME. Winner: The Ramones

#3 Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody over #14 Beck – Girl. Hey, don't get me wrong, I like Beck, but "Girl" is not going to define the quiet part, loud part, quiet part song structure like Freddy and the Boys did. Winner: Queen

#4 Pixies – Debaser over #13 The Doors – L.A. Woman. For my money, the tripped out, self described Lizard King has nothing on the fat, sweaty screamer from Boston. Winner: Pixies

#12 The Police – Roxanne over #5 The Kinks – You Really Got Me. - This was a tough pick for me, not because I like the Kinks song better, far from it. But only because Sting has become such a douche since Dune. Still, I can't hold that against Andy and Stewart. Winner: The Police

#6 Pink Floyd – Fearless over #11 The Stooges – I Wanna Be Your Dog. You couldn't find a greater disparity in aggression between songs in this tourney. Aggro does not a winner make. Nope, few grooves in this tournament top this song by Floyd. Winner: Pink Floyd

#10 Kings of Leon – Slow Night So Long over #7 Guns n’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle Winner: Kings of Leon Hey Tim! Fuck Guns n' Roses! The new album is unlistenable! Ha!

#8 The Jam – Town Called Malice over #9 Elton John - Tiny Dancer. This was a tough pick for me. I mean you could go with the group singing scene in Almost Famous, or you could go with Billy dancing down the streets in Billy Elliot. This being the eve of St. Patty's Day, I went with the little mick kid. Call it the luck of the Irish. Winner: The Jam

#1 The Clash - One look from them would make Fred Schneider's hair go flat.

#2 The Ramones - Joey, Johnny & Dee Dee reach up from the grave once again and assert their dominance.

#3 Queen - While perhaps not their best song, they still remain one of the seminal influences in rock. Plus Beck is a Tom Cruise-lovin', thetan-believin' Scientologist. Take that beat down, Xenu

Tough call here. I was about to show my age and pick the Doors, but out of nowhere my gut screamed Pixies, and so it is, the 4 seed wins.

#12 The Police. Aside from being my first real concert (Violent Femmes opened, at Mississippi Nights in St. Lou), the coppers really showed the way for a lot of bands. Although as noted earlier, Sting really has become a huge douche.

#6 Pink Floyd. Another tough matchup, but like Princeton vs. UCLA in '96, the four corners offense outlasts the fast break.

#7 Guns n' Roses. Had to go with them in this round, even though they also gave us the white-boy anthem Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

And, #9 - Elton pulls it off after he re-works Tiny Dancer to celebrate Obama's victory.

Side note -- Could there be more douches in this bracket? I understand that there can be a blurred line between talent and douchiness, but really, this should be called the Douche Bracket -- Fred Schneider, Beck, Fat Jim Morrison, Sting, Roger Waters, Axl Rose and Elton? Wow, a festival of douche.

Clash - You just don't stop a powerhouse in the first round

Ramones - see above

Beck - big upset, but not Queen's best offering and you just can't get Girl out of you head when you hear it in the morning, it has staying power.

Pixies - in a close one. The Doors suffered from a bad seeding.

Kinks - in suprising fasion, they dominate this round.

Stooges - Iggy, nough said.

G'N'Fing' R - No contest

Elton John - again, catchy and staying power.

I want to be witty and clever, because some of the best damn songs in the tourney are in this bracket. But it's late, I'm freakin' exhausted, and it's only a matter of time before my kid is crying again. So in a nutshell...

#1 The Clash - London Calling
#2 The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
#3 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
#4 The Pixies - Debaser
#5 The Kinks - You Really Got Me
#6 Pink Floyd - Fearless
#7 G 'n R - Welcome to the Jungle
#8 The Jam - Town Called Malice

Not an upset in the bunch. Easiest bracket yet.

Hos, Every Rose Has It's Thorn is Poison, not G 'n R. I'm sad that I know that. But Axl is a douche. Maybe we can take the leftovers and have a biggest douche in the universe contest. And to think, Bono isn't even in the game!

from Erwin:

For some reason I can't to the post on the your blog. I'm going to have to vote from email.

1. b52's - I'm going to be honest and say I'm doing this one for Athens, Ga. Regardless of the shit I'm going to get for this and how much I love the Clash, when you play this song a party will form around you like little rocking electrons.

2. The Romones - Almost 30 years old and still hip as shit.

3. Queen - Freddy Mercury may be gay, but Beck's a Scientologist. Being a Scientologist is the only thing more gay than being gay.

4. L.A. Woman - This was a REAL tough call for me. I love the Pixies and Debaser is one of the my all time favorite jams. That said, L.A. Woman is one of the toughest songs ever. I don't like the Doors and think Jim Morrison was just a drunk baffoon who either made cheese or nonsense. But not L.A. Woman, it's a masterpieces of ciggarette smoke, whiskey, regret and living like there's not tomorrow....cause there's not.

5. The Kinks - The Police are a great band, but to decribe Roxanne in one word, I'd use the word annoying.

6. The Stooges - KICK AN OLD MAN IN THE TEETH BECAUSE THE WORLD BELONGS TO YOU BABY! YOU THINK SLEIGH BELLS DON'T ROCK, TRY THIS BITCH!

7. Welcome to the Jungle - Do you have to ask.

8. Town Called Malice - Tiny Dancer is about a little ballerina or something. It makes me want to hurt myself, but they cry and get better.
